Observing with CARMA

Proposals

Observing time with CARMA is allocated in response to proposals judged on scientific merit. A Call for Proposals is issued twice yearly for general and target of opportunity (TOO) time. Proposals requesting Director's discretionary time may be submitted at any time.

Calls for proposals will be advertised on the CARMA website and sent to the carma-announce mailing list. To subscribe to that list send the email that appears at this link.

Observations

Proposers will be advised of the status of their proposal(s) several weeks before observations are due to commence. PIs will be responsible for the preparation of observing scripts. Efforts will be made to observe all accepted proposals in good weather. Scripts for accepted proposals will be added to the observing queue and will generally be executed by an experienced CARMA observer. Although PIs are welcome to visit the CARMA site, it will not typically be possible to schedule observations during their visit. PIs of large projects may be asked to assist with site observing, after appropriate training.

Once you have been advised that your project is to be scheduled, you should prepare an observing script.
