How to install java plugin in firefox
- Go to Java plugin download page
Download Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 (about 2/3 the way down the
- Select your platform and language (multi-language ok as default)
- Click on "I agree...."
- If you know what an RPM is and how to use it click on "Linux RPM in self-extracting file", otherwise click on "Linux self-extracting file". Click on the LINK not the checkbox.
- Select "Save to Disk" - make a note of where the file is saved
- Become root and do
mkdir -p /usr/java
Answer yes to "agree to terms" question and it should install
See if it worked: ls /usr/lib/jre1.6.0_06
Exit your Firefox session
Again as root do
ln -s /usr/java/jre1.6.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/
Type "about:plugins" in the address bar.
You should see the Java plugin in the list.
