Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2001 15:19:31 -0700 From: deyoung@noao.edu (Dave De Young) Subject: Workshop Dear Colleague; This is to inform you of an informal two day workshop on "The Virtual Observatory - Integration with Theoretical Modeling and Visualization Issues", to be held in Tucson March 20 - 21 at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory. The intent of this workshop is to explore methods that will most effectively couple the very large databases available through the Virtual Observatory with the equally large data sets produced by sophisticated astrophysical modeling, such as the evolution of large scale structure, N body systems, hydrodynamics of accretion and collimated outflows, and galaxy and cluster merging. In addition, the visualization problems associated with these and other VO activities will be discussed, with the aim of finding efficient solutions that can be shared throughout the community. This workshop will provide a basis for further discussions to be held at the Virtual Observatory Workshop in Aspen 27 May - 10 June 2001. As this will be a workshop to develop new strategies, the intent is to bring together a rather small group of those who are actively involved in theoretical modeling and/or are involved in these aspects of the NVO initiative. If you are interested in attending, please send a brief email note to that effect to Kathy English at NOAO (kenglish@noao.edu). Further details concerning accommodations, agenda, etc. will be sent in a few weeks. Please circulate this notice to any others you feel would be interested. We hope that you can attend.
