July 1998: Kevin Olson's ring galaxy simulation.
Two simulations, with slightly
different prescriptions for artificial viscosity have been used:
Gas densities (logarithmically scaled from -2 to 5) for the SPH
component, seen face on.
- test1.mpg simple face on view of the
gas response of the companion (invisible) plunging through. (B/W)
- test3.mpg comparison of
gas response (in red) and companion (green) of the same simulation
with two different prescriptions of the viscosity law. Top and
bottom show face-on and side view again.
- Interesting 3D slice thorugh the data,
where time is the 3rd axis. You can see the 'caustics' that
represent the outflowing ring right after the companion had
plunged through the center. The big middle panel shows an XY view,
the narrow right panel is T-Y, and bottom one a X-T panel.
- Postscript attempts: ring1
